Brian Nowell
Chairperson
Following a 36 year career in finance and general management in a large public manufacturing company, Brian focused on applying his skills and experience in governance roles. Having been involved in governance since the year 2000, he has served as a director and or trustee of several organisations.
He applies his leadership skills in motivating teams to assess and evaluate opportunities that continually stimulate improved quality of service delivery and growth of organisations.
He currently has roles as the Chair of a Tertiary Education provider, a Charitable Trust that provides residential services for people with disabilities. He also serves as a Trustee of a Foundation involved in Palliative Care.
In the past he has been a Director of a Trustee of public and Kiwisaver superannuation funds.
He is a Retired member of the Institute of Accountants of Australia and New Zealand, and was a Chartered member of the Institute of Directors New Zealand until his resignation in June 2018.
Brian is an avid sports enthusiast and has a strong desire to encourage involvement in a broad range of activities that aid communities to better their health, wealth and well being, both individually and collectively.
Gavin Donald
Deputy Chairperson
Gavin is a proud Counties Manukau person having represented the province in both rugby and tennis.
Gavin is Managing Director of GMD Consultants, a planning and environmental consultancy he founded following five years at a multi-national engineering consultancy and a five year period of working and playing rugby in England. Working in local government in England, provided Gavin an opportunity to work on major sporting venues, including the Arsenal Football Club Training Ground and golf club redevelopments. Gavin has extensive experience in engagement process and water rights issues.
Gavin continues to be a supporter of Counties Manukau Rugby and when time allows enjoys fishing and a round of golf.
Gavin previously sat on the board of New Zealand Universities Rugby.
Te Rina Noon
Board Member
Te Rina is of Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Porou descent.
She grew up in Manurewa (where she now lives with her husband and young son) playing basketball for Counties Manukau and attended Manurewa Intermediate.
She is passionate about encouraging sport as a key tool for improving physical and mental health and the opportunity to create social change. Te Rina is passionate about giving back to the community and is grateful for the opportunity to serve in this role.
Te Rina is a qualified lawyer working in Human Resources.
Dina Buelow
Board Member
Dina is a financial adviser (CFPCM), passionate about community initiatives making a positive impact on people's lives. In a previous Trustee role, she was involved with a women’s micro credit charity, and now looks to bring her strengths in analysis and planning to CMS.
She has been in the financial services sector for over 13 years. Prior to immigrating to New Zealand, she worked across industry in the U.S. and Europe, within corporates such as General Electric, SMEs, and not for profits.
Dina and her partner live in the Hunua Ranges, and has since taken up yachting, kayaking and golf. She’s keen to promote greater participation in sport as key to physical and mental health.
Stephanie Sidoruk
Board Member
Professionally I have a 20+ year career in banking and currently I lead the business banking team for Auckland for Bank of New Zealand.
As a mum of 3 young children I know the joy that participating in sport brings and the social, physical and mental well being and I am passionate about every South Aucklander having access to and being able to participate in Sport.
My Governance experience also includes 5 years serving on the Board of Maungawhau School. I’m excited to join the Counties Manukau Sports Board and to share my experience with the community. I enjoy running and have completed 6 half marathons.
Reverend Onosai Auva'a
Board Member
Onosai is from Counties and grew up in Papakura. He represented NZ in the U19s Jr Rugby World Cup winning team in 2004. He played NZ7s and won Gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2006. He played rugby for Auckland and the Blues before heading over to the UK playing for Sale. Onosai retired after playing for the Counties Steelers, Ardmore and NZ Marist. Onosai is married to Amy and they have 4 sons. He has graduated from University in Theology, Teaching and Social Services. Onosai is currently an Anglican Priest in Papatoetoe. He is the Regional Leader for sports Chaplains in Auckland South. He roles in governance includes school and church boards, counselling agencies and focuses on pastoral care and well-being.
Julie Ingram
Board Member
Julie brings over 15 years HR experience where she held Senior Leadership roles in the education, manufacturing, and pharmaceutical sectors. Prior to this Julie was serving her community as a Police Officer for 9 years in the Counties Manukau region.
Julie has lived in the Counties Manukau area for the past 25 years where she and her husband Bryan raised their 5 children. All children played a number of sports in the area including rugby, cricket, soccer, netball and water polo, where Julie was Club Captain of Mountfort Park Water Polo Club for 5 years.
Julie is passionate about sport and the opportunity it provides to tamariki of all ages and backgrounds, including improving their health and wellbeing.
Leigh Ziegler
Board Member
Leigh is of Ngāti Tuwharetoa descent. She grew up in Papatoetoe, attending Papatoetoe Intermediate and Papatoetoe High School, and now lives in Manurewa with her husband and three young children.
Leigh is an environmental lawyer who has worked in the Resource Management and Environmental Law team at Buddle Findlay for over 12 years. She is passionate about improving the environment for the benefit of future generations, and enjoys being able to contribute to positive environmental outcomes through the work she does. In her role as a lawyer, Leigh regularly works with government and crown agencies, and has a strong understanding of how such bodies operate, particularly when it comes to community initiatives and how those are funded and operated.
Leigh is also passionate about the health and welfare of our tamariki and giving back to the South Auckland community, so she is excited to be a part of the Foundation. She sees sport as an opportunity to improve one's physical and mental wellbeing, as well as providing a sense of belonging and accomplishment through participation and celebration of sporting achievement.
